On 19 May 2026, representatives of the charity organisation Ukrainians in Northern Ireland, accompanied by The Honorary Consul for Ukraine in Northern Ireland, Alan Moore OBE, had the honour of meeting King Charles III and Queen Camilla at a special event celebrating the arrival of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann in Belfast and the city’s designation as a UNESCO City of Music. The event was held at the historic Titanic Pump House, Belfast, in association with HM’s Lord Lieutenant for The Co Borough of Belfast, Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle DBE DStJ.
During the meeting, King Charles III warmly expressed his strong support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian community in Northern Ireland, acknowledging their resilience and contributions to local society. This marked the fourth occasion on which representatives of Ukrainians in Northern Ireland have met Charles III, following earlier meetings in 2022 and during Coronation events.
We also had the honour of meeting and speaking with the HM’s Lord Lieutenant for The Co Borough of Belfast, Fionnuala Jay-O’Boyle, and Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Tracy Kelly, and are sincerely grateful for their continued support of the Ukrainian community in Northern Ireland.
The Fleadh promises to be a landmark celebration of Irish music and culture, and the King’s engagement highlighted the importance of cultural exchange, community solidarity, and international support.
