On 15th June 2026, the official opening of the public exhibition Icons on Ammo Boxes Project took place in Newry!
This international project of Kyiv artists Sonya Atlantova and Oleksandr Klymenko is known worldwide for its deep philosophy: the transformation of symbols of destruction and death into symbols of life, faith and hope. Wooden lids from boxes for artillery shells, brought directly from the front, become canvases for amazing works of art.
The launch was attended by Newry City Councilor Valerie Harte, whose support is vital to our community.
Many thanks to Kerri Morrow (Community Engagement and Development Manager) and all the team at Newry Mourne and Down District Council and Newry City Library for organizing and making this exhibition possible in such a wonderful space.
Unique, specially created icons of the patron saints of Ireland – St Patrick and St Brigid – are being exhibited for the first time.
Funds from the sale of the art pieces will be used to support Ukrainian hospitals and the purchase of ambulances.
🗓️ The exhibition is open: from 15th June to 3rd July, 2026.
📍 Location: Newry City Library (79 Hill St, Newry BT34 1DG).
Admission is free during library hours.
We will be grateful for your reposts and support.
